Donostia city centre is full of little shops. Broad avenues taking us back to the Belle Époque, a delightful stroll to windowshop and, of course, have a few pintxos.

Here’s my choice of pintxo bars in the city centre. To have a little rest between shops whenever you want.

You’ll think I’m just a traditionalist, but I like to kick off my round of pintxos with a wonderful potato tortilla, and I adore the version they produce at Bar Victoria Café!

For a slightly lighter snack I make my way to Kata 4 in nearby Plaza Catalina, and I have … a few oysters! Variety’s the spice of life!

I follow up with one of my favourite pintxos: langostino prawn ravioli with Martini Bianco sauce in Bar Antonio. Have you ever tasted anything like this?

And since two’s company, but three’s much better, from prawn ravioli to a prawn skewer with Emmental cheese in tempura. What a combination!

After those langostinos, I like to move on to a typical Donostia foodstuff: baby squid. At Bar Avenida XXL they make a grilled squid pintxo with caramelised onion that’s finger-licking good!

Near the San Martin Market, in the classic Bar Iturrioz, I stick to Donostia cuisine and sample some traditional cod. But at Bar Iturrioz they do it their way: “club Ranero” in green parsley sauce.

After strolling around the avenues in the city centre, I like to go beachwards and have the last pintxo on my route in Bar La Perla: salmon toastie with an anchovy duo.
